Welcome Dr. Austin Boice!

Lamar Native Dr. Austin Boice Returns Home to Join Vision Solutions Team!

We're pleased to welcome Dr. Austin Boice back to his hometown of Lamar as the newest member of our professional eye care team at Vision Solutions! A familiar face to many, Dr. Boice is looking forward to providing medical and family vision care to the community that helped shape him.

In addition to providing comprehensive eye exams, Dr. Boice has a special interest in the diagnosis and management of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. He is also passionate about supporting patients with low vision by helping them access tools and strategies to improve their daily lives and maintain independence.

The Boice family has a longstanding tradition of serving our community in healthcare, and Dr. Boice is proud to be the first in his family to pursue optometry. “It was my experience as an optometric technician here at Vision Solutions that inspired me to further my education and become an eye doctor,” he says. “What stood out to me was the time and care the doctors gave each patient. In a world where many specialties are becoming rushed and impersonal, I saw real, one-on-one relationships being built—and I knew I wanted to be a part of that.”

Having worn glasses since the second grade and benefitting from vision therapy to correct a binocular vision problem, Dr. Boice’s connection to optometry is also deeply personal. “I know how life changing good vision care can be,” recalls Dr. Boice. “It allowed me to excel both academically and athletically.”

Dr. Boice earned an academic scholarship to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He went on to earn his Doctor of Optometry degree with highest honors from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, and received the prestigious Clinical Excellence Award given by the Southern Council of Optometrists to honor a 4th-year student who demonstrated excellence in adult primary care. During his training, he completed clinical rotations focused on treating acute and chronic eye disease, co-managing cataract care, and providing outreach care to children and nursing home residents.

“Dr. Boice embodies the values of Vision Solutions—compassionate, patient-focused care and clinical excellence,” says practice owner and principal optometrist Dr. Erica Burton. “We are thrilled to have him back and confident our patients will benefit from his skills and dedication.”

Dr. Boice will see patients at our Lamar and Nevada offices beginning July 1st, 2025.
